To help reduce the significant cost to the NHS of sending SMS messages to patients, GP surgeries are being encouraged to send more correspondence by email.
We will continue to use SMS for essential messages such as:
- Appointment booking confirmations and reminders
- Requests for home blood pressure readings
- Requests for photos of skin complaints
We will start sending more of the following information electronically:
- Updates about practice closures or changes
- Patient letters
If you have already provided your email address, you will automatically begin receiving these communications via email.
